10-15/16" rim, 27" scale, curly maple neck, fancy engraved pearl inlays in fretboard, peghead, backstrap and heel cap, elaborately carved heel, original Grover spring loaded pegs with pearl buttons. Plating wear on stretcher band and bracket band, and binding on treble side of fretboard has been replaced, otherwise excellent original condition. Rough condition bump case. $7350

10-7/8" heavy spun over rim, 26" scale maple neck with bound ebony fretboard, engraved gryphon peghead inlay, engraved fretboard inlays, essentially the same neck as Whyte Laydie No. 2. The neck has a well repaired heel crack, a small chip out of the peghead veneer and has been french polished slightly darker than original. All parts and hardware are original. Fitted with new high quality calfskin head. Overall VG-EXC except as noted. New HSC $2000

An unusual custom instrument, 12-1/4" Tubaphone rim, matte finish nickel plated hardware, 28" scale ebony fretboard, 22 frets, last three extend over head, 1-3/8" nut width, gryphon peghead, engraved dot fret markers, highly flamed curly maple neck, carved heel. Some cosmetic damage on back of peghead from old side geared tuners previously installed, some playing wear, otherwise EXC. $4750

Vega Senator Plectrum Banjo 1922/1930
10-15/16" rim, two section mahogany resonator, 26 hooks and ball end nuts, individual flanges (2 missing), 26" scale mahogany neck with bound pearwood fretboard. Neck is from 1922 (serial no. 48745), rim from 1930 (serial no. 91042). Dowel extended 3/16" to fit slightly larger rim, two small screw holes repaired in back of peghead, considerable wear to dyed pearwood fretboard but only moderate fret wear. Good sound and playability, overall VG-EXC. $750

Natural (pumpkin) finish spruce top, red finish back and sides, bound top, unbound back, bound ebony fretboard. Light finish wear and weathering, a little case rash on back from old canvas case, a small section of back seam reglued but overall a good all original example. EXC-, with new HSC $1450

White finish three piece spruce top, red finish back and sides, bound top and back, bound ebony fretboard, small vine peghead inlay, ivoroid pickguard. One hairline repaired top crack under the tailpiece, one finish chip in top near fretboard, replaced bone nut, only light normal playing wear. EXC, OHSC $2400

Cherry sunburst top finish, oval soundhole bound with "rope" pattern and ivoroid, bound ebony fretboard, 24 frets, abalone fleur de lis peghead inlay, small metal tag from Miles Music Store, Knoxville, Tennessee on peghead. Two repaired hairline top cracks near tailpiece, some finish wear on back and shoulders, scratching on back of peghead, playing wear on neck, missing pickguard, tuners are original but had been replace with later ones at one time. VGC, OHSC $1950

Cherry sunburst top finish, oval soundhole bound with "rope" pattern and ivoroid, bound ebony fretboard, 24 frets, abalone fleur de lis peghead inlay, original adjustable ebony bridge, truss rod, original pickguard. Considerable finish wear on back of neck, some other wear, small repaired crack at lower end of heel, tuners are correct style and period but likely not original to this instrument. Good sound and playability, a nice Loar period instrument. VGC, newer HSC. $2650
