A. C. FAIRBANKS BANJO, FAIRBANKS AND COLE NO. 0 – c.1892
11-1/2″ rim spun with nickel silver, 30 brackets, 26-1/2″ scale cherry neck, dyed pearwood fretboard with dot inlays and large diamond inlay at end, celluloid F & C patent tailpiece, fancy celluloid friction pegs.
This banjo was built after the breakup of the Fairbanks and Cole partnership and bears both the A. C. Fairbanks and the Fairbanks and Cole brands on the dowel. The instrument is completely original with the possible exception of one peg which is a bit lighter in color than the others. It shows playing wear and some deterioration on the fretboard but is in otherwise excellent condition. It arrived with gut strings still on it and has probably never been strung with steel. We have it set up with nylon strings. $950
